Yes, a recent study found 49% of the environmental damage that companies made came from impacts hidden within the company’s supply chain. There are also social issues that lurk in a supply chain too – such as debt bondage, child labour and unsafe conditions for workers.
A business can’t vouch for these suppliers directly, so the suppliers will need to account for their own impacts. A simple way to control supply chain risks is to ensure the products or suppliers have the appropriate certifications.
