Why have we have made the “Future Friendly Pledge” into an separate Award? It’s because, well, it really is important.
Making the Future Friendly Pledge starts a business on journey to becoming a better business – one that benefits the community and the environment. It sets the business on a new path that will have a huge impact in future, year in, year out. The pledge is a reminder of the business’s wider goals. It motivates staff and it is valued by customers.
More than that, a business that is part of the Future Friendly community is working together with other businesses both locally and more widely for the benefit of all.
The pledge is simple but wide-ranging. It’s great for starting discussion among staff. It’s surprising how engaged staff can get. And it can open up new ways of thinking that can make the business more efficient. Sometimes amazing new ideas come out of it. And some ideas are just no-brainers!
How does a business make the pledge?
It’s easy to do – click ‘Get Listed’ to create your own business dashboard. Once you’re in, you can print out the pledge, get it signed by your most senior person at the premises, and display it to your customers. You then need to show us you’ve done it by uploading a photo of the signed pledge as evidence.
Business is recognising the role it can play in combatting climate change. Thank God, is all I can say, for there is a desperately urgent need for business to play that role.
